INTRODUCTION

The Royal and Ancient Golf club of St.Andrews and the United States Golf Association,in consultation with other golfing bodies from throughout the world,have carried out their customary quadrennial review of the Rules of Golf and have adopted this new code,which is effective from 1st January 2000.

As in previous years,substantive changes have been kept to a minimum,but a number of Rules have been amended or re- drafted in continuance of the policy of making the Rules of Golf as clear as possible.


The Royal and Ancient Golf club of St.Andrews and the United States Golf Association will continue their close liaison in all matters concerning the Rules and their respective and mutual efforts to preserve and enhance the integrity of the game and its Rules.Both organisations would like to record their appreciation of the valuable assistance which they ave received from other golfing bodies throughout the world.
