From the 1979 Ryder Cup where Continental players took part in the competition and thanks to Seve Ballesteros’s a huge thrust given to the European team this event turned to be one of the greatest sports events in the world. Twenty – one years after also due to one of the greatest players of all times a new event was born, the Seve Trophy.

This tournament will be staged bi-annually and will confront in a match play format a team of golf players from the British Isles (Great Britain and Ireland) against one from Continental Europe.

Each team will be made up of 10 players and the selection parameters will take into account the world ranking as well as the European list or nowadays, The Race to Dubai.

I am delighted that the PGA’s European Circuit has teamed with my own company Amen Corner to promote this event. Obviously I feel so honoured that it carries my name”.
